"Beta (son), you worked so hard to get that job why did you just throw it away!" His tiny but fierce Pakistani mother scolded Aadil.

"Mom, the Prophet Muhammad Peace Be Upon Him fought against injustice, kids are dying, and I should stay silent! Abu (dad) you talk to her."

His dad looked at him. A hard working immigrant from Pakistan who came to Canada in the 80's he and Aadil's mom had put him through school, and helped pave the way for his life.

"Look we were protesting too, but you had to be more careful." His father took a sip of his chai, in his parents expensive formal dining room. As a child he was never allowed in here. As an adult he wished he didn't have to be because it was only for serious situations like this.

"Dad, you didn't come to Canada, get me educated here, so I would shut-up especially when Zionists can say whatever they want about our brothers and sisters!" He was angry, not at them but the situation.

At that moment the Adhan (Muslim call to Prayer) played on the computer. "Let's pray and Allah will help find a solution." Said his father. His mother didn't say a word but went to go pray. She was going to be upset about this for a long time. Aadil having a good job was everything to her.

"Allahuakbar". Aadil raised his hands to start praying.

"Assalamalaikumwarahmatulla." Aadil turned his head while sitting to conclude the prayer.

Aadil knew he had prayed, but truth be told he wasn't sure how much it counted. His mind kept wandering.

Dead Palestinian kids.

Bills mounting up.

His moms hurt and anger.

He shook his head, and raised his hands up to pray. He made a prayer silently.

Allah, these little kids in Palestine deserve to live, please let them live and please let our efforts here matter.

He stood up, and gave his mom a hug. Wearing her dupatta over her head she was making prayers like him but much more intently. After all she had a son who kept screwing up.

He nodded to his dad, "I will be back soon and keep you posted on my job hunt."

Aadil got back into his car in the cold January night. He had two notices on his phone. The first was that his birthday was coming up Feb 7th, but he didn't feel like celebrating. The second was his official email termination notice. Aadil stared at it for what seemed like forever in his parents driveway.

He then tossed his phone onto the passenger seat and sped away into the night.

Aadil's Not Anti-Semetic is created by Nadir Shirazi M.Ed. a former Multi-Faith Facilitator at the University of Toronto, and former Religious Diversity Consultant. Aadil's voice is the voice of the voiceless calling for a ceasefire to save the Palestinian people. For those who truly believe that Anti-Zionism is NOT Anti-Semitism.
