“Free, Free Palestine!”
Aadil chanted along with his fellow protestors. This isn’t how he imagined spending his birthday. It had been nearly five months since Israel had begun its genocide campaign, or what they and their allies like to called “a right to self defense.”
Self defense my a$$. You don’t have a right to one when you steal someone’s land, and they happen to fight for it back. It’s called being a colonizer.
But people in Toronto had been lied to for so long and were so afraid of being labelled as Anti-Semitic that Pro-Zionists could do and say whatever they wanted. It literally took a massacre being live streamed for people to finally find a voice. Even then this protest had been labelled Anti-Semitic by the Premiere of the Province.
A notification on his phone chimed.

He daydreamed for a second about how long it had been since he had a refreshing frapalapsweetcho with extra whipped cream. Diabetes in a cup, but like heaven.
“Aadil chacha (uncle)! Don’t you dare think about getting a coffee. I will throw it in the garbage.”
His 13 year old nephew Moiz was climbing on top of a rock waving a Palestinian flag. So was his 10 year old niece Fatima.
But the Palestinian children like his niece and nephew were being murdered in front of the world. Heaven Money Coffee had proudly said they stood for Israel and even donated money to the Israeli Genocide Forces. Aadil refused to call them Defense forces because murdering children on land you stole wasn’t defense.

All children around the world deserved to be safe, thought Aadil.
But Palestinian children had been neglected in an open air occupied hostage situation and somehow if they threw rocks they were the terrorists. Or they were murdered because Israel said they would grow up to become terrorists.
But would seeing your entire family murdered by a Nuclear/US Backed/UN convention breaking/International Court of Justice Defying/Illegal State make you any less angry if you were Palestinian? And did protesting against that make you a hater of Jewish people. Even when Jewish people were in the very protest he was in?! It made no sense.
His niece interrupted his thought and said. What if we go get the coffee and throw it in the garbage!”
Aadil laughed, “You know what why not!”
Aadil ducked inside the coffee store with the kids. He immediately was booed. “Trust me!” He reassured the crowd.
He went to the barista and scanned the app. I will have a super large chocolate tiny coffee with sprinkles and rainbow unicorn foam! The barista said “Happy Birthday”
“Thanks” Aadil said. “Could you make it quick.”
“No problem sir.”

He rushed back out, and threw it in the garbage.
“That was my birthday gift from them! It cost them money not me!”
“FREE, FREE, PALESTINE!” he yelled with his niece and nephew.
The crowd roared their approval and began singing Aadil the happiest of birthday songs!

Aadil's Not Anti-Semetic is created by Nadir Shirazi M.Ed. a former Multi-Faith Facilitator at the University of Toronto, and former Religious Diversity Consultant. Aadil's voice is the voice of the voiceless calling for a ceasefire to save the Palestinian people. For those who truly believe that Anti-Zionism is NOT Anti-Semitism.
